What is a stock? Ownership before price
THE PHANTOM PLAYBOOK · INTRODUCTORY READING
A stock represents an ownership interest in a company. A share price tells you what buyers and sellers are willing to exchange at a particular time; it does not tell you everything about the underlying business.
Read beyond the chart.
Ask how the business earns revenue, what its filings disclose, and which uncertainties matter. Distinguish information published by the company from commentary or promotion about it.
Ownership still involves risk.
Share prices can fall, and an investor can lose money. Dividends are not assured. Understanding the company does not make a future price predictable.
Practice prompt: find one company filing. List one fact it establishes, one management expectation, and one question it leaves open.
